What is a Residential Sponsor?

Residential Sponsors are individuals or families who desire to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. Individuals are carefully matched to a family wishing to open their home to provide care and compassion. For families, Residential Sponsorship is a significant commitment that can yield significant rewards. For individuals, Residential Sponsorship is the opportunity to live a normal life every day with a family that fosters relationships and community living.

*Individuals may also range in their level of functioning - ranging from high functioning (needing minimal assistance) to low functioning (needing maximum assistance)*

As a Residential Sponsor, you will be considered a contractor - not an employee - of Abundant Love, LLC.  We provide specialized training necessary to provide compassionate, home-based support to individuals. 

Residential Sponsors are held to regulatory standards and enforced by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), and Abundant Love, LLC to ensure that individuals are receiving the highest level of care. Abundant Love will provide 24/7 crisis care, ongoing support, and personalized training. 

Abundant Love Family Services’ Sponsored Homes provide 24-hour residential and individual supports for one (1) or two (2) adults in each home, who are intellectually and/or developmentally disabled. These individuals may be transitioning from a natural family environment or from another facility such as a group home, hospital, foster care, or another program.

Therefore, we’re looking for skilled and qualified people in the field of Human Services who are naturally loving, patient, caring, and understanding.  Ultimately, you will be bringing this person into your home to care for & provide services to them as if they are your natural family member, while keeping in mind that you have a job to do.  

Steps to Become a Residential Sponsor

  I.            Any applicant for the Sponsor Residential role must:

1.       Be at least 21 years old

2.       Drug-free (including Marijuana)

3.       Rent or own a Home (must be able to obtain Certificate of Occupancy)

4.       Have at least one (1) extra bedroom for the Individual that you’ll provide services for

5.       Have a computer/laptop, internet connection, and printer (cannot use your phone or tablet)

6.       Be able to pass the following:

a.       TB (Tuberculosis) screening

b.       Criminal Background check

c.       Medicaid Fraud Check

d.       CPS registry check

e.       Drug screening

7.       Complete an employment application (download online)

8.       Submit initial documentation to include:

a.       Resume

b.       Three (3) written references to confirm your work history and ethic

c.        HS Diploma, GED, and/or College Degrees or transcript

d.       Driver’s license

·         Proof of Car Insurance

9.       Have access to cash or line of credit totaling 3 months of your monthly expenses

·         Ex: If your monthly expenses = $1000, you should have access to $3000 (must be proven)

10.    Interview face-to-face

Below is the potential compensation you will receive, but it depends on your skill level, willingness to learn and adjust, and Tier of the Individual that's placed in your home once you've been approved and trained.  Most individuals will also pay the Sponsor $650/month to rent a room.
